Dear Parents/Carers,
On Monday 14th June the Government announced a 4 week pause on the roadmap out of lockdown which means that the existing COVID-19 operational guidance remains in place for the time being. The guidance specifically states “This means that traditional transitional and open days are unlikely to be feasible for this academic year …”
Following this announcement and the advice from the Department of Education, we (along with our local secondary schools) have made the decision that we can no longer hold our traditional transition day(s) where our current Year 6 children would spend time at their new secondary school and we would welcome current Year 2 children to our school.
This is not a decision we have taken lightly. However, the mixing of children from different schools along with children from our own school means that we would be unable to maintain the integrity of bubbles or consistent groups and adhere to our systems of control.
We are planning, however, to hold a ‘transition week’ for the children currently at Purbrook Junior School. This will provide a great opportunity for the children to meet their new teacher and work with their new classmates. This will be for the week commencing Monday 5th July 2021.
The arrangements are as follows:
- Children will be informed of their new classes and their new class teacher on Wednesday 30th June.
- All children will arrive and depart from school at their usual (COVID times) using their usual entrances/exists to the school site but proceed to their new classrooms) – please see attached map showing the locations of the classrooms/teachers
- Children will have PE on their usual PE days and need to come to school dressed in their PE kits for this day.
- Following the difficult decision by secondary schools not to run their transition days during this week, we have a full programme of events for our current Year 6’s. At the start and end of the day they will be sited in current Year 3 classrooms as follows: 6H in 3OH, 6F in 3B and 6B in 3A.
COVID Arrangements
- We have risk assessed this transition week, especially in light of the recent COVID case in school and we feel that the benefits to the children outweigh any potential risks in moving the children.
- Our existing COVID arrangements will apply during this week.
- The children will be staying in their consistent year group bubbles for the week.
- Classrooms will be cleaned/sanitised between children changing classrooms so there will be no cross contamination.
Yours sincerely
Mr C Williams
