Music and Drama plays an extremely important part of our curriculum and is enjoyed by all across the school.
Music education is vital to developing well-rounded individuals. Even if a child does not play an instrument, music has the ability to allow us to feel nearly or possibly all emotions that we experience in our lives. It calms us and relaxes us. It can take us away from reality. The possibilities are endless. The Music curriculum at Purbrook gives pupils exciting opportunities to play a wide range of musical instruments as well as the chance to explore and appreciate a number of different music genres that are appreciated all over the world, in rich and diverse cultures and by all walks of life. Music curricular lessons are taught using the SingUp teaching scheme. Furthermore, if your child is interested in learning an instrument, we offer a selection of music lessons with experienced music teachers. These extra-curricular lessons do incur a charge.
Drama and performance are embedded throughout the curriculum as a whole. Located in film, television, music, song, theatre and many other artistic forms around the world, Drama is a creative, dynamic and imaginative skill that builds confidence, self-esteem and teamwork skills. In addition to this, it allows pupils to build empathy and tolerance through the study of ideas, themes and world issues. Drama has intrinsic educational value. Giving our children the opportunity to partake in drama-based activities allows them to build skills in character, movement, voice and a varying range of performative elements.
Throughout the school year, pupils have the chance to involve themselves in a number of music and drama festivals, assemblies and events, both internally and externally.
